Dance and Movement Psychotherapy sessions are personal and unique to each client, enabling them to openly express themselves in a non-judgemental and empathic environment.
A space is provided where therapist and client can explore emotional, social, cognitive and physical aspects of the self and what they have, or currently are, experiencing.
The sessions are Person-Centred and aim to create an open and accepting space where the therapist can build a relationship with individuals and support them with looking at the self and how to positively move forward.
Dance and Movement therapy is suitable for children, teenagers and adults who are experiencing a range of issues linked with traumatic events, battling with stress, depression or anxiety or going through a particular transition in life. It can also be used for individuals with learning and special needs.
Sessions can include character work, where the therapist and client create roles and characters or use transitional objects to express how the individual feels or felt during a certain period of time. Thoughts and feelings can be expressed through the use of craft, movement, rhythm and sound and they can work with different pressure and tensions for release and relaxation.
As people, it can be extremely difficult to simply ‘put into words’ how we are thinking or feeling. Dance and Movement Psychotherapy offers a creative alternative to those who may find it difficult to do this.
