Ian Shaw

About me

I am a fully qualified therapist with over 12 years of experience. I have worked with all age groups but I have extensive experience of work with young people, aged between 10 to 25 years. I work within the field of family mediation as well and I am pleased to accept couples and relationship work. Currently, I work from The Lotus Therapy Centre in Mansfield.

Experience

My experience includes counselling in the voluntary sector, education settings and also within private practice. I have worked with a wide range of issues including relationship difficulties, issues around sexuality, depression, anxiety, anger issues, mental health problems, family breakdown, bereavement, low self-esteem, self-confidence, bullying, stress, study/exam pressures, work-related problems, eating disorders, self-harm and body image concerns.

Person-Centred Counselling (PCT)

PCT is a humanistic approach that deals with the ways in which individuals perceive themselves. I aim to offer a non-judgemental and honest approach as you explore your past and current experiences. It is within this environment that you are supported to develop emotionally and process issues that may be affecting you.

A Person-Centred therapist puts trust in the client to work out what is best for them and to find ways of moving forward. As a Person-Centred counsellor, I endeavour to fully understand your individual experiences, to help you to learn about, and reflect on, your inner values and sense of self-worth, and, in turn, develop your own sense of identity and be confident and happy in the world with who you are.

I aim to offer a safe and confidential environment where you can explore the difficulties you are experiencing. My counselling approach places an emphasis on supporting you to have a greater understanding of yourself and on enabling you to find solutions and coping strategies.

The BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) has produced information leaflets that you may find useful when looking for the right therapist for you.
