Jane Wilcockson

Hi, I’m Jane. I’m a fully qualified and experienced Person-Centred therapist and hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I aim to offer a warm, safe and confidential space for you to talk about issues that are causing you problems or worries.

It can be a very difficult decision to decide that you want to come for counselling. You may have asked yourself lots of questions before getting to this stage – and rightly so, as it is very important that you feel comfortable and safe and that you trust the counsellor you choose.

Experience

Since qualifying in 2010 I have worked in private practice as a Person-Centred Counsellor integrating Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) where appropriate.

I currently work in the team at Lotus Therapy Centre at The Limes. The centre offers a range of holistic therapies. I also spend one day a week in a local Academy working with youngsters from 11 to 18 years old.  People come to counselling for many different reasons such as depression, anxiety, relationship issues, bereavement and loss, stress, anger and low self esteem and self-esteem in a safe, confidential and comfortable space where we can look together at the difficulties you are experiencing.

Person Centred Therapy has the belief that we, as humans, have the ability to move in the direction of a more fulfilling and satisfying way of being and living our lives.  It is based on the trust that we can find out own answers and direction based on our inner resources.  It is ourselves who know what hurts and we have the capacity within the safety of a therapeutic relationship to being the healing process.

Previous to my work in private practice I was a volunteer counsellor with ISAS (Incest and Sexual Abuse Survivors),Talkzone (a counselling service for young people) and Nottinghamshire County Council Children and Young People’s Counselling Service.

Since then I have completed an Advanced Post Diploma Certificate in Person Centred Couples Therapy.  I have also attended training events on Trauma and the Body and Treating Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Panic Attacks, alongside regular professional development groups.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and am fully insured for public and professional liability.

Please contact me to book an appointment or for any other information you may need. I look forward to hearing from you.

Counselling

As a Person-Centred counsellor I can help and support you to work through your feelings in a safe and accepting environment. You will feel listened to and not judged and hopefully we will be able to work together to find solutions to your problems or just acceptance of your thoughts.

People come to counselling for lots of different reasons. Some of these can be issues with family or relationships.  These types of issues are especially difficult to discuss with people we know.  Depression and anxiety can cause us to feel very low and it can be hard to find a way out of it on our own. Issues around anger can cause problems in all our relationships and I can help you to find out why you feel anger and help you to find ways to manage these overwhelming feelings.

I see people of all ages and with lots of different issues, such as bereavement, anxiety, sexual abuse, anger management issues, depression, eating disorders, low self-esteem, trauma related issues and relationship difficulties.

Children and young people

I have significant experience of working with children and young people, presenting with lots of issues such as low self-esteem, anxiety, self-harm and bullying. I have also worked with young people on the autistic spectrum.

Having previously worked in a local Learning Centre offering counselling to young people with very chaotic and traumatic backgrounds, I have a great deal of experience in helping young people to understand and sometimes accept their past, helping them to move towards a more fulfilling future.

I worked for Talkzone, a charitable organisation who take counselling referrals from young people ages between 16 and 26 years.  I also volunteered as a trainee counsellor with Nottinghamshire County Council’s Young People’s Counselling Service where I worked with young people from 10 – 19 years of age.

Couples/Relationship Counselling

Our work together will focus on building a trusting, safe relationship, where you will feel able to talk openly and honestly with each other.  The work encourages open communication and is an opportunity to explore difficulties in relationships, helping to find ways to understand each other and work through any conflicts.

Sometimes we can leave things until they reach crisis point in relationships but couples therapy can also help if things are feeling a bit stale and you are feeling your relationships needs an MOT!

Clinical Supervision

I work with qualified and trainee counsellors to create together an open and honest environment where professionals feel comfortable to discuss and be supported in their work and to know that all aspects can be discussed without judgement.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and work within their ethical framework.  I have regular supervision sessions and am committed to personal and professional development.

I am fully insured for public and professional liability.
