Hi, I’m Susannah Dirckze-Taylor. I am a qualified and ADMP registered Dance Movement Psychotherapist with 4 years experience.
Before training as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist, I had lots of experience of working in the arts, particularly creative theatre. I began looking at how I could apply and exert these skills as a therapist. As a Person-Centred Therapist, I aim to create an open and accepting space where I can build a relationship with individuals and support them with looking at the self and how to positively move forward.
Since qualifying, I have worked with children, teenagers and adults, who are experiencing a range of issues linked with traumatic events, people battling with stress, depression or anxiety, those going through a particular transition in life and individuals with learning and special needs. After an initial meeting, I hold personal and unique sessions for each client to openly express themselves in a non-judgemental and empathic environment.
I aim to provide a space where therapist and client can explore emotional, social, cognitive and physical aspects of the self and what they have, or currently are, experiencing. Sessions can include character work, where we create roles or characters or use transitional objects to express how the individual feels or felt during a certain period of time. Thoughts and feelings can be expressed through the use of craft, movement, rhythm, sound and we can work with different pressure and tensions for release and relaxation.
As people, it can be extremely difficult to simply ‘put into words’ how we are thinking or feeling. Dance and Movement Psychotherapy offers a creative alternative to those who may find it difficult to do this.Work with adopted/foster children & young people
Dance Movement Psychotherapy is a recognised approach for working therapeutically with adopted or fostered children who may have experienced neglect and abuse in their birth families and suffered from developmental and/or attachment trauma. Children who have been in the care system may have had many changes in the people who look after them and find it hard to trust adults.
They may believe that parents aren’t safe and can’t always be turned to for comfort and help. They may develop insecure attachments and try to stop their new parents from becoming emotionally close to them. Dance Movement therapy helps the children learn to trust. I have worked with Local Authorities to provide therapy for adopted children.
